General purpose camping knife |

The knife appears well made and is well balanced. Gerber is a well known and trusted brand of knives. I was a little uncertain about the handle based on the picture, but having held it, the handle feels sturdy and has good grip. The blade is fairly thick and has a shallow cut out at the top of the blade for striking the fire steel which is also included. I would reserve the included fire steel as an emergency use item and use a separate fire steel for regular camping use, as I don't think you can buy replacement ones. The sheath secures the knife really well and appears to be sturdy and well made. The incorporated diamond sharpener is definitely a plus. I removed the lanyard and whistle as it does get in the way a little. The product packaging appears a little cheap, I guess to cut costs. Mine was damaged in the post but is not an issue unless you are buying this as a gift. In which case, you might want to purchase a box or something more presentable.

fantastic knife, well designed and crafted, possibly the best knife i have used on my monthly camping ventures, however when it comes to close combat i feel the knife lets you down. if you are looking for a knife for cutting down branches and making biverwacks this is the one for you, however if murder is your cup of tea id stay well clear and go for the rambo 18inch machete, you will see fear in your enemies eyes with that knife.
